A wool sweater is one of the warmest and most comfortable garments of the year. At K&US, you will find sweaters in a variety of lengths and fits. The styles range from classic cuts to completely unique designs exclusive to K&US. Choose from sleek, fine-gauge wool sweaters, Jacquard knits, and turtlenecks in fluffy wool. The collection also includes wool hoodies, tunics, and dresses. In addition to classic knitwear, there is an autumn and winter collection featuring boiled wool garments, including wool blazers and skirts in various lengths.
Different types of wool
Our wool sweaters come in a range of fantastic wool varieties, such as Merino wool, cashmere, alpaca, and yak wool. Naturally, the Merino wool is non-mulesed, and you should choose yak wool if you tend to feel the cold; yak wool is the warmest variety among our sweaters and cardigans. Most garments are knitted from pure wool, though we sometimes come across wonderful wool blends we simply cannot resist. A personal favorite is a blend of wool and silk, for instance; the result is a sweater with a stunning sheen and lightness that exudes pure luxury. Other blends may also contain a touch of elastane to provide the flexibility and shape that suit certain styles particularly well.
What makes wool so great?
Wool is a fantastic material with outstanding properties that few other materials can match. When you own a wool sweater from K&US, you know you are wearing a garment made from a fully renewable material—one that does not deplete the Earth's limited resources in the same way as a synthetic garment. Knitted wool sweaters regulate your body temperature, keeping you cool in warmer weather while ensuring you stay warm in cold, damp conditions. Even if you get damp or wet while wearing a wool sweater, the wool will still keep you warm. Wool also possesses self-cleaning and antibacterial properties that prevent issues like the odor of perspiration. Consequently, wearing a wool sweater can provide an extra sense of comfort and confidence in demanding situations.
Does wool pill?
Almost all wool pills after some use; this is simply excess wool fiber that can easily be picked off by hand, removed with a fabric shaver, or combed away with a wool comb. Also, try to avoid letting items like bags rub or chafe against your garment, as this will cause more pilling in those specific areas. If you take good care of your wool sweater, you will be able to wear it for a long time to come.
How do I care for my sweater?
As the owner of a wool sweater, you help the environment because you don't need to wash it nearly as often as garments made from other materials. In fact, you shouldn't wash it too frequently; after all, you want to preserve the wool's excellent natural qualities. Washing it just once or twice a season—or even less—is usually plenty. Wool is naturally self-cleaning; all it needs is fresh air and, ideally, a little humidity. So, give the washing machine a rest and simply hang your garment out to air—consider the "laundry" done! When the time finally comes to wash it, do so by hand in lukewarm water (avoid soaking) and lay it flat to dry. It is important to use an enzyme-free detergent designed for wool so you don't compromise the wool's natural benefits.
Another way to care for your wool sweaters is to store them flat. Avoid hanging knitted garments on hangers, as the weight can cause them to stretch and lose their shape. It is also a good idea to place a few pieces of cedar wood near your wool sweaters to help deter pests like carpet beetles.
