What Is Linen?

Linen is made from the stalk of the flax plant, which inner threads are spun and woven into a versatile fabric. The use of linen is unquestionably ancient. It is known that linen cloth was produced in Egypt long enough ago to be a well-developed art by 5000 B.C.  Apart from being strong and durable, the fabric is fully biodegradable. Flax can be grown without the use of pesticides or artificial fertilisers and is best suited to a temperate climate – which is why most of our linen is sourced from Eastern European countries. Linen has a remarkable lustre and a varied texture. It has a wonderfully crisp appearance, which only gets crinklier, softer and more beautiful with use. Our linen fabrics come in a whole array of different weights and textures for you to choose from. Linen jackets are usually made from the heaviest linen weave in order to retain the perfect fit and shape, whereas our finest linen weave is superior for the lining.

What are the Advantages of Wearing a Linen Jacket?

Linen jackets are particularly popular during the spring and summer months. With rising temperatures, we simply need to feel cool and comfortable in our clothes. Linen absorbs moisture without holding bacteria, meaning your clothes will not release bad odours and will require less frequent washing. An elegant, crisp linen jacket will offer you great comfort on those hot summer’s days. A perfect choice for everyday wear, work, travel or those special occasions.

How Do I Care for my Linen Jacket?

Like all natural materials, airing your linen clothes is an excellent way of getting rid of odours without needing to wash them. Less washing reduces the impact on the environment and washing your clothes less frequently will also allow your clothing to last longer, so you do not have to buy replacements. Wash your linen jacket in a washing machine at 40 degrees Celsius. However, some of our Italian linen fabrics only tolerate a maximum of 30 degrees. Always wash with similar colours. Turning your linen jacket inside out before washing it can also help protect the fabric and buttons during the wash cycle. Avoid using fabric softeners, as they interfere with the environment and the absorbency of your natural linen clothing. After washing, gently stretch your linen jacket into shape and hang it to dry.
